Third year in a row for a romantic getaway. This year we came in December and the lights and music made it magical. Lovely candle lit dining experience at the Copper Mug with delicious meals. Our room was very clean, comfy and cozy. Aside from some minor maintenance issues in our room, this place is a wonderful place to escape to.
I wouldn’t drive all that way just to see the lights but we wanted to eat in the restaurant so that made it worthwhile. The lights are nice though. Santa was there so that was nice for the grandchildren.
The castle and grounds are picturesque. The rooms are very cozy and the decorations are quaint. The drive to the place was the only detraction. It's a couple miles of the main road down a narrow twisty gravel road. It adds to the secluded feel well enough. Just remember to stop in town for essentials before you make the final leg of your journey to it as you probably don't want to make the trip in the dark. They have many things there but the price is high.$5 for a single size bag of chips. I was there for a wedding and that event went off very nicely.
My daughter wants to go back sometime and spend the night so we won’t hesitate to eat here again
It was a bit hard to find. A few more signs would have been helpful. I think that our GPS brought us in the back way so that was part of the problem. It took us home a better way. ??
Amazing rooms, breathtaking holiday lights and friendly, knowledgeable staff! (Ask them about the history of the grounds!) Had to get the Macbeth Cottage #13 because it was the only room left and I was nervous about it. Online it has bright orange/pink walls and a weird floral bedspread. It has been renovated (maybe from when Gordon Ramsay was there?) and the walls are gray with a clean white bedspread. It's beautiful, much better than the pictures online. The staff should really update those! The cottage with renovations is definitely worth the price. Very romantic.
We came back again this year for the Halloween Murder Mystery and I can’t believe how bad it was compared to last year. I’m referring to the one on Saturday because we were told that Friday was good. If that’s true, I’m glad those guest got the most for their hard earned money because we sure didn’t. We did stay in a suite this year and it was really nice. We thought the indoor pool would be also but that was a huge let down. Waterfalls are suppose to be part of that experience but neither one was working. The pool cleanliness was awful. The coping was black with mildew or mold. We have a pool at home and with a little attention to detail and a good cleaner you won’t ever have that nastiness. Maybe a change in management is what’s needed.
The food in the restaurant was a little pricey but very good. It was busy but we had made a reservation so no wait. The bread was very good. Children are free with adult meal. I had the steak which came with a huge potato. Another site complained that their steak had fat and gristle. First of all fat gives taste and second they have this thing called a knife that you can use to cut around what you don’t want. It was a nice size steak and very tasty. We shared the ice cream cup and it was huge.
